Privacy policy
Ladder Night is run by Synth and Scale LLC, a single-member limited liability company organized in Illinois ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do. Questions go to support@synthandscale.com.
Two kinds of people, two roles
Organizers sign up and run leagues. They are our customers, and we are responsible for their account information.
Players never sign up. An organizer types their names into the league. The organizer decides what goes in and what it is used for, and we store and process it on the organizer's behalf. If you are a player and want your name changed or removed, ask your organizer first; you can also write to us and we will help.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, and the leagues you own or help run.
- Signing in: we email you a one-time code. We store only a scrambled (hashed) copy of it, and it expires within minutes. Once you are in, a cookie keeps you signed in, and we keep a short description of each signed-in device (such as "Chrome on Windows") so you can see and sign out your devices from your account page.
- League data you enter: player names, who is out on which night, court assignments, finishing places, the ladder order and the league's settings.
- Billing: payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach us. We keep only the Stripe customer and subscription references and whether the subscription is active.
- Technical data: our hosting provider processes IP addresses and request details to deliver pages and block abuse. Our own logs record counts and events, never player names.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent anyone's information.
- We don't show ads, and we don't use advertising or analytics trackers.
- We don't create player accounts or contact players.
- The only cookies we set are the ones needed to sign you in and keep you signed in.
How we use it
To run the service: sign you in, deal courts, print sheets, record results, bill the subscription, send you the emails the service needs (sign-in codes, billing and account notices), keep the service secure, and meet legal obligations.
Who we share it with
Only the providers that run the service for us, and only for that purpose:
- Cloudflare: hosting and data storage.
- Microsoft: sends the sign-in and account emails.
- Stripe: payments and invoices.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public. If Synth and Scale LLC is ever sold or merged, this policy continues to apply to the information we hold.
Support access
If you ask us for help, we may need to look at your league. That access is read-only, lasts at most 60 minutes, needs a written reason, and emails the league owner before any page opens. Every page viewed is logged.
How long we keep it
- For as long as your league is active.
- If the subscription ends, the league becomes read-only: you can still open it and download everything.
- 12 months after it ends, we email the owner. 30 days after that email, the league and its data are deleted unless you subscribe again.
- Backups are overwritten within about 30 days of a deletion.
- You can ask us to delete your account or a league sooner by writing to support@synthandscale.com.
Your choices
- Take your data: every league's Billing page has a full backup and a spreadsheet of the ladder, available any time, even while the league is read-only.
- Correct or delete: edit players in the league yourself, or ask us at support@synthandscale.com to correct or delete your information.
- Players: ask your organizer, or write to us and we will work with them.
We will answer requests within 30 days.
Security
Everything is sent over HTTPS. Sign-in codes are stored hashed and expire quickly. Each league's data is kept in its own separate database. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your information, we will tell you promptly.
Where it is stored
Our providers are based in the United States and may process data in other countries where they operate.
Children
Ladder Night is for adult league organizers and is not directed at children. Don't enter information about a child under 13 without a parent's permission.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will email organizers before it takes effect and update the date at the top.
